About the Symphonic Orchestra
The Symphonic Orchestra is the SCPYO’s intermediate full orchestra for musicians with 3-5 years playing experience. It performs unabridged pieces of standard orchestral repertoire, as well as some advanced level arrangements.
The Symphonic Orchestra meets from 1:15 p.m to 2:45 p.m. at the USC School of Music.
Joanne Mosquera
Ms. Mosquera attended the University of South Carolina, where she received a Performance Certificate in Cello Performance, and a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in Music Education. She continued her education at Columbia College. There, she received a Master of Education in Divergent Learning. Under Ms. Mosquera's direction, the orchestras participated each year in the SCMEA Concert Performance Assessment and have received "superior" ratings. In addition, Ms. Mosquera's orchestras have received "superior" ratings in regional competitions. In 2015 and 2019, the Dutch Fork Middle School Honors Orchestra performed at the SCMEA annual conference held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Ms. Mosquera is an active member of NAfME, SCMEA, and ASTA. She has served as a guest clinician, conductor, and adjudicator for multiple districts and regions across the Southeast. In addition to teaching, Ms. Mosquera is a freelance cellist. She resides in Chapin, South Carolina her dog Bongo, and her cat Caxixi.
Audition Requirements
Symphonic Orchestra auditions require a set list of excerpts, scales and a solo piece. Please review your instrument requirements listed below. For any questions email joanne@scphilharmonic.com.

Excerpts: Please review all excerpts for your instrument. Not all excerpts may be asked for in the audition.
Scale Requirement: One-quarter note per scale degree, quarter note=80
Violin
- F major two-octaves
- D melodic minor two octaves
Viola and Cello
- Bb major two-octaves
- G melodic minor two octaves
Bass
- C major two-octaves
- E melodic minor one-octave
Solo Requirement: prepare a solo piece of choice that will showcase your technique, musicality, and overall playing ability.

Excerpts: Please review all excerpts for your instrument. Not all excerpts may be asked for in the audition.

Scale Requirement:
- Winds/Brass: Prepare all SCBDA All-State Senior Band Audition scales. One scale will be chosen at the audition to perform.
- Percussion: F, Gb, G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E (2 octaves). One scale will be chosen at the audition to perform.
Solo Requirement: Prepare a solo piece of choice that will showcase your technique, musicality, and overall playing ability.
