The SC Phil presents the second Music in My Neighborhood program in the neighborhoods of Eastover and Hopkins May 4-11th.


Music in My Neighborhood is an immersive community program from the South Carolina Philharmonic that brings a week of free ensemble performances, educational programs, and unique collaborations to a Midlands neighborhood. The SC Phil presents the second annual Music in My Neighborhood program in Eastover and Hopkins, South Carolina, May 4th through the 11th, 2025. The program will feature thirteen free events overall, with several being at local schools, healthcare centers and the department of veteran’s affairs. Five of these events will be open to the public.   This project is supported by a Connected Communities Grant from Central Carolina Community Foundation and is also funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Richland County H-Tax program through Councilwoman Allison Terracio, and Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union.

STORYTIME WITH THE SYMPHONY
A special read-aloud of One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree by Daniel Bernstrom—a playful, rhythmic tale full of adventure and whimsy. Following the story, children will participate in an interactive percussion exploration activity, where they’ll have the chance to make music of their own.

AESOP’S FABLES
Aesop’s Fables for narrator and chamber orchestra are light musical vignettes.  Their descriptive and colorful character makes them attractive to the young musical ear.  Aesop’s Fables was composed to introduce the instruments of the orchestra to elementary students and to teach them about the elements of music.
