Get ready to embrace the magic of live symphonic music in a welcoming atmosphere where families can create lasting memories together. Freedom and fun abound with "Family Time with the Phil" - an inclusive concert-matinee that invites audiences to sing, dance, and enjoy the symphony without the expected barriers of a live performance. Whether you're tapping your feet to lively tunes, singing along with the orchestra, taking a break to visit the quiet room or simply letting the music move you - this experience promises joy and excitement for the whole family. Did we mention there’s an instrument “petting zoo” and some off-duty service pups that you can meet!

To ensure accessibility and comfort for all attendees, accommodations include:

  • a larger first-floor changing area at the Koger Center;

  • headphones and fidget spinners to help manage overstimulation;

  • designated quiet spaces outside the auditorium;

  • early access to the venue so families can become familiar with the environment;

  • social stories are available in advance to help prepare audiences for the experience - just email susan@scphilharmonic.com;

  • clear pathways for mobility devices and visual accessibility;

  • service animals;

  • a sign-language interpreter;

  • and on-site community partners offering resources and support throughout the event.

Family Time with the Phil is made possible by grants from the South Carolina Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Woman's Club of Columbia.
