About the Prelude Orchestra

The Prelude Orchestra is an advanced beginner string ensemble comprised of string players with at least one year of playing experience. This group is ideal for beginner students wanting an additional challenge, or for Suzuki/private lesson students looking for a first-time orchestra experience.

The Prelude Orchestra meets from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Sundays at the USC String Project.

Audition Requirements

Prelude auditions require an excerpt, scales and a solo piece. Please review the requirements listed below. For any questions email susan@scphilharmonic.com.

Excerpts:

Scale Requirement: Prepare all scales for your instrument. Scales should be played in quarter notes at Quarter Note = 80.

Violin

  • G major two-octaves
  • E natural minor one-octave

 Viola

  • C major two-octaves
  • A natural minor one-octave

 Cello

  • C major two-octaves
  • A natural minor one-octave

Double Bass

  • D major one-octave
  • A natural minor one-octave

 

Solo Requirement: Prepare a solo piece of your choice that will showcase your technique, musicality, and overall playing ability.

This can be a piece from your method book, however orchestral pieces are not permitted.
