MEDIA CONTACT 5 JUNE 2007 Four honored by Philharmonic for service, citizenship COLUMBIA , S.C. – The 2007 winners of the South Carolina Philharmonic’s awards for service and citizenship have been announced, honoring exceptional support of the orchestra. Each spring, the SCP Board of Directors awards two individuals the Maj. Gen. Robert B. Solomon Award in recognition of volunteerism for and service to the Philharmonic. This year’s winners are Harvey L. Galloway and Gail M. Morrison, both of Columbia. “With the Solomon Award, we recognize not only a multi-year commitment of service to the Philharmonic, but also courageous leadership, which both Harvey and Gail exemplified in the past two years and more,” said James Lehman, president of the SCP Board. “Their efforts have been a significant help during a period of transition in which we seek our next music director.” Galloway, who serves as the immediate past president of the SCP Board of Directors, is entering the final year of his second term on the SCP Board. He heads the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation. Morrison is the chairwoman of the music director search committee, which earlier this year named seven finalists out of 232 applicants for the SCP’s music director position. She is interim executive director of the S.C. Commission on Higher Education. New this year are two Citizenship Awards, one recognizing corporate support and the other to an individual. The inaugural corporate citizenship went to Columbia-based BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, while Rick Palyok of Columbia was honored for outstanding individual citizenship. ### Photographs available upon request. |
