New season to be announced on "Selection Monday"

On Monday, March 14 – a day Americans will fixate on filling out basketball tournament brackets – the South Carolina Philharmonic will fill out its 2011/2012 season during “Philhar-madness” on SCPhilharmonic.com.

Beginning at 9 a.m., the SCP plans to announce four “selections” of musical works or guest artists from the new season every hour, on the hour through 4 p.m.

Music Director Morihiko Nakahara, “chairman of the selection committee,” will offer insight during each of eight rounds that will reveal the 22 musical works and 10 guest artists that comprise the 2011/2012 season. A round-by-round announcement will be visible on SCPhilharmonic.com/philharmadness, and site visitors can click over to a season schedule to be filled in as the works and guest artists are announced that shows how the season comes together.

Music critic David Lowry, who often reviews the SCP in the Free Times, has been recruited to critique the selection committee after the final round of Selection Monday at 4 p.m.
