Review: A Concert for Columbia (Free Times)

David Lowry of the Free Times reviews A Concert for Columbia, which was Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Koger Center. The make-up concert for the postponed, Oct. 9 season opener was a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony that was dedicated to the City of Columbia, Richland County, and all first responders who protected Columbia during and after the catastrophic flood.

Quotable:

"... with just two rehearsals, Nakahara pulled off the symphony most successfully. The singers rallied beautifully to the occasion... Those of us who sang were totally rapt in observing Maestro Nakahara’s brilliant conducting face-on — especially since we usually see him from behind."
