Cello star Julie Albers closes Masterworks Series

The South Carolina Philharmonic closes its Masterworks Series for the season with guest cellist Julie Albers making her Koger Center debut, Saturday, April 18th at 7:30 p.m.

Bohemian Rhapsodies, sponsored by Pat & Tom Fortson, celebrates two composers who today would be considered Czech: Bedrich Smetana and Antonín Dvorák.

Smetana is perhaps most known for his tribute to the bucolic, Bohemian landscape Ma vlast (My Fatherland), which includes the famed movement “The Moldau.” That and two other prominent portions of Ma vlast are on the program to open the concert.

Dvorák’s contribution to the concert is his emotional, melodic Cello Concerto in B minor. Music Director Morihiko Nakahara welcomes guest cellist Julie Albers, sponsored by BB&T, for her Koger Center debut and to close the orchestra’s 2015/2016 Masterworks Series.

Nakahara presents the popular, free pre-concert lecture Classical Conversations at 6:30 p.m. in the Koger Center auditorium, offering unique insight into the evening’s program to all ticket-holders.

Tickets are $47, $39, $29, $21 and $17. They are available online 24-hours a day at KogerCenterForTheArts.com, or from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday by phone at 803.251.2222 or at the Koger Center Box Office at Park and Greene streets. Student and military discounts are available. Self-parking is $5 and Southern Valet provides valet parking for $10.
