SCP announces education and outreach director

Kim Sullivan of Columbia has joined the SCP as education and outreach director, heading up the orchestra’s educational outreach programs that bolster arts education in the Midlands.

Sullivan (right) started with the orchestra as conducting assistant to Music Director Morihiko Nakahara in 2009. In September 2011 she became education coordinator to help the SCP implement a new music education partnership with Link Up, a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute for students in grades K-6. Link Up provides hands-on music to prepare students for interactive educational concerts by the SCP. In February, after getting more than 4,000 students from all over South Carolina to participate in the state’s first Link Up concerts, Sullivan conducted the SCP for the four concerts, as well.

Link Up and the SCP present “The Orchestra Sings” at the Koger Center Feb. 19-20, 2013.

A native of Newtown, Conn., Sullivan is working on her DMA in orchestral conducting at USC. She will continue as conducting assistant, and serve as development coordinator for education and outreach funding.
