All South Carolina Philharmonic education concerts involve active student participation, interaction and engagement. The older the age group, the greater the depth of the educational instruction: What is going on in the music? How are instruments working together to form an idea? How are expectations fulfilled or thwarted by composition? Through active listening, students lock into the excitement of sound! Unless otherwise noted, programs are coordinated through the schools. For more information about these educational opportunities, contact Audience Services Director Jason Rapp at 803.771.7937 or JasonRapp@SCPhilharmonic.com.
Schools adopt musicians who visit throughout the school year, acquainting students (and teachers) with their musical lives and increasing the appreciation and love of classical music. Students also receive discounted Philharmonic tickets.
For more information about the South Carolina Philharmonic Youth Orchestras, please contact Youth Orchestra Manager Judith "Judy" Lawrence at 803.788.8442 or jlscpyo@sc.rr.com. The concerts are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Information about the 2007/2008 concerts coming soon. Open to school age students through auditions, the three Youth Orchestras strive to foster the greatest artistic and personal development of talented young musicians by providing them with a musical experience that challenges and nurtures their abilities and creates a lasting sense of pride in their work. Concerts are performed at the Koger Center for the Arts (home of the South Carolina Philharmonic) throughout the season. Click here for more information about the Youth Orchestras. |
