Mahler's "Titan" and Copland's Billy the Kid closes our 2022/2023 Masterworks Series.
Guest Artist
SC Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Neil Casey, Music Director
STATE OF TRIUMPH: Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 was only called “Titan” during its second and third performances, but some modern performances and recordings have returned to this title – perhaps because this is the first symphony by a true music Titan of the 19th Century. Billy the Kid was one of the most infamous outlaws of the 19th Century, and Aaron Copland’s ballet evokes the desperado spirit of the American West. The SCP Youth Orchestra joins the SC Phil for this piece, so saddle up, giddy up and join us for the last concert of the 2022/2023 Masterworks Series.
