Music for a Cause

The S.C. Phil's “Music for a Cause” program turns concert experiences into “coming together” events with six non-profit 501(c)3 organizations from Richland and Lexington counties.

We’re proud to raise awareness and funding for the communities they serve. This benefits the partnering organizations by:
  • Increasing their visibility and awareness to an audience with an interest in strengthening community through cultural partnerships and philanthropic support.
  • Jump-starting fundraising efforts without the overhead of a special event. Our partners may set up displays at “their” concerts, take donations and even sell tickets to their own communities, from which they’ll receive 75% of the face value as a donation from the S.C. Phil.
  • Using collaborative advertising opportunities to share the “buzz” about the scope of their own projects and initiatives while sharing the S.C. Phil with their communities.

In 2016/2017 the S.C. Phil once again partners with six area charities to raise money and awareness of their causes. Each charity will be featured at a Masterworks concert. The charities for the season are:

  • Lighthouse for Life (Sept. 9, 2016)
  • Home Works for America (Oct. 15, 2016)
  • Red White and Babies (Nov. 12, 2016)
  • Palmetto Place Children's Shelter (Feb. 4, 2017)
  • Harvest Hope Food Bank/Orchestras Feeding America 2017 (March 11, 2017)
  • Historic Columbia Foundation (April 22, 2017)

To request consideration as one of the six Music for a Cause partners in the 2017/2018 season, download the application and return by Friday, March 10, to: South Carolina Philharmonic, 500 Taylor Street, Suite 300, Columbia, SC 29201, or fax it to 803.771.0268. You may also scan and email a PDF.

Apply for 2017/2018!

The S.C. Phil is pleased to accept applications for six partner charities of the 2017/2018 season. Partners are recognized in publicity and advertising for the concert and are offered a display table in the lobby and the opportunity to insert an informational flyer into the program book. They are also able to sell concert tickets as a fundraiser, keeping 75% of the proceeds for their organization.

In selecting its seven partners, the Music for a Cause program focuses on helping a diverse cross-section of smaller, human- or animal-service non-profit organizations from Richland and Lexington counties with limited resources, giving them a unique chance for publicity and awareness in front potential supporters that might not be familiar with their programs.

Many of our partner charities select a date near a major fundraiser or important date in their organization's mission (like Earth Day or World AIDS Day). Dates for the 2016/2017 season will be announced in early 2017. Every attempt is made to pair your organization with its preferred date, but dates with multiple requests will be assigned based on order of applications received. A normal S.C. Phil Masterworks Series runs from September/October to April, with no concert in December.
